ELMCIP in Finland

The ELMCIP project just concluded a very productive seminar on Electronic Literature Publishing at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland. Raine Koskimaa, the Principal Investigator of the project, arranged a superb seminar with input from expert speakers ranging from hypertext pioneers such as George Landow, European electronic-literature publishers Philippe Bootz and Beat Suter, Laura Borras Castanyer from the editorial team of the recently released Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 2, speakers from the EU project Literature Beyond Frontiers, and presentation of impressive work-in-progress on a report on Electronic Literature in Europe, researched by Markku Eskelinen and Giovanna di Rosario. The event provided great perspectives and insights into the history and potential futures of electronic-literature publishing, and a great deal of productive debate about the role and function of publishers in new-media pubishing environments. Materials from the event, including video from the sessions, will be added to the ELMCIP Knowledge Base in coming days. In the meantime, think of springtime in Central Finland which provides ample incentives for scholarly pursuits, indoors.
